Saga, Aug. 24 (Jiji Press)--Saga Governor Yoshinori Yamaguchi said Friday his prefecture will accept a plan by Japan's Defense Ministry to deploy 17 units of the Osprey tilt-rotor transport aircraft to a local airport in the southwestern Japan prefecture.

"I decided to accept the ministry's request after comprehensive studies and careful consideration," Yamaguchi told a news conference at the prefectural government's office.

In their meeting earlier in the day, visiting Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera and Yamaguchi agreed that the ministry will pay 500 million yen a year over 20 years to the prefecture as landing fees at Saga airport for the Ospreys of the Ground Self-Defense Force.

They also agreed on a plan to utilize the landing fees to establish two foundations, including one to promote the fishery industry in the prefecture.

In the meeting, Yamaguchi said he was able to confirm the agreement.
