Sharp to Fully Enter Security Camera Market

Economy

Tokyo, Aug. 29 (Jiji Press)--Sharp Corp. <6753> said Wednesday it will launch commercial-use surveillance cameras in stages from mid-September, making a full-fledged entry into the market.

Some of the 13 models from the YK series can zoom, and others can capture 360-degree images. The cameras are expected to be used at locations such as shops, factories and parking lots.

The YK series products have high resolutions, ranging from 2 to 12 megapixels, and are seen selling for 40,000 to 470,000 yen.

The security camera market in Japan is seen surging toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, and is likely to continue expanding even after the events.

"We want to win a market share of over 10 pct as early as possible," a Sharp official said.
