Tokyo, Sept. 5 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe confirmed at a meeting Wednesday with visiting Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno that Japan will provide 70 million dollars in loans for stable power supplies in the South America nation.

The loans will be used chiefly to develop power grids in Ecuador.

During the meeting at the prime minister's office in Tokyo, Abe and Moreno agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in not only the electricity field but the information and communications technology area.

In this regard, they signed an agreement on Japan's technical aid for Ecuador's introduction of the terrestrial digital broadcasting system under the Japanese formula.

In an event related to Ecuador the same day, the Finance Ministry said that Tokyo and Quito had effectively reached an agreement on a pact to prevent double taxation and tax avoidance.
