Yamaguchi Hands China Side Abe's Letter to Xi

Beijing, Sept. 6 (Jiji Press)--Natsuo Yamaguchi, head of Japan's Komeito, met with Wang Yang, the fourth-ranking Communist Party of China official, in Beijing Thursday and handed him a personal letter from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Then the leader of the junior coalition partner of Abe's Liberal Democratic Party underscored the importance of realizing a China visit by Abe within this year and a Japan visit by Xi next year.

Wang, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that efforts by the two countries have brought their relations back on track, and that both sides need to make efforts for further improvement.

Yamaguchi initially planned to meet with Xi during his ongoing visit but has given up the idea due to a scheduling conflict.

This is the fifth China visit by Yamaguchi since he became Komeito chief in 2009. During his previous trip in November 2017, he also had talks with Wang.
