Japan Govt FY 2019 Budget Requests Hit Record 102.8 T. Yen

Tokyo, Sept. 7 (Jiji Press)--Overall general-account budget requests by Japanese government ministries and agencies for fiscal 2019 have hit a record high of 102,765.8 billion yen, the Ministry of Finance said Friday.

The actual total of budget requests for the year starting next April is certain to grow further, as government spending for measures to alleviate negative effects of the planed consumption tax hike in October next year on the domestic economy will be considered separately.

The MOF is ready to scrutinize budget requests in a tougher way than in normal years to maintain the country's fiscal discipline.

The total general-account request amount exceeded 100 trillion yen for the fifth consecutive year.

The previous record of 102,409.9 billion yen was posted for fiscal 2016. The MOF curbed the requests to set the initial budget size for the year at 96,721.8 billion yen.
