Paris, Sept. 12 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Crown Prince Naruhito met for the first time with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles in a Paris suburb on Wednesday.
During the 40-minute meeting, the Crown Prince gave the president a message from Emperor Akihito showing his hope that Japan and France will strive to develop their friendly ties further from this year celebrating the 160th anniversary of the bilateral amity and commerce treaty.
The prince and the president then moved to the palace's opera house and enjoyed watching a Noh performance combined with three-dimensional background effects by wearing 3-D glasses.
The show to fuse the cutting-edge technology into the Japanese traditional performing art was held as part of the Japonismes 2018 festival to promote Japanese culture in this European country.
At an evening banquet hosted by the president and his wife, Brigitte, Macron, in his opening address, expressed his sympathy with people hit hard by torrential rain in western Japan in July and last week's powerful earthquake in the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido.
