Hitachi to Sell Sony TVs, Eyeing Stronger Appliance Sales Tie-up

Economy

Tokyo, Sept. 25 (Jiji Press)--Group companies of Hitachi Ltd. <6501> and Sony Corp. <6758> said Tuesday that they have agreed to tie up in home appliance sales in Japan.

Under the agreement, Sony's mainstay Bravia television sets will be sold at Hitachi-affiliated home appliance retailers from mid-October.

The alliance will help the Hitachi group replenish its consumer electronics lineup and Sony increase its sales channels.

Besides the TV sets, the Hitachi retailers are expected to handle blu-ray recorders, home theater systems and other Sony products in the future, people familiar with the matter said.

Since ending its own TV production in 2012, Hitachi has been selling through the group retailers Woo brand TV sets made by a third company under an original equipment manufacturer arrangement.
