Tokyo, Sept. 25 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese department store Takashimaya Co. <8233> opened a new commercial complex in Tokyo's Nihonbashi district on Tuesday, hoping to widen the age range of its customers and attract more tourists from abroad.

The Nihonbashi Takashimaya Shopping Center, which houses shops and restaurants, is widely expected to gather attention as a new hot place to visit in the district conventionally known as home to long-established stores.

It consists of four buildings, including a new building that has seven floors aboveground and one below.

The complex's total store space reaches 66,000 square meters, one of the largest in the Nihonbashi district.

Of some 110 stores housed in the new building, about 40 pct are eating and drinking establishments, including a coffee shop that opens at 7:30 a.m. to attract people working at nearby offices.
