Japan, N. Korea Foreign Chiefs Hold Talks in New York
New York, Sept. 26 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono said Wednesday he held talks with his North Korean counterpart, Ri Yong Ho, in New York on the same day.
The sit-down meeting took place at the U.N. headquarters for about 20 minutes, Kono told reporters.
But he declined to disclose what he discussed with Ri.
The two foreign ministers shook hands, according to Japanese government sources.
In the talks with Ri, Kono is believed to have explored the feasibility of a summit between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, after Kim touched on possible dialogue with Japan during his meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in earlier this month.
