Narita Airport Passengers, Flights Hit Record Highs in Aug.
Narita, Chiba Pref., Sept. 27 (Jiji Press)--The number of passengers and flight landings and takeoffs at Narita International Airport in August hit record highs for any month since its 1978 opening, the airport operator said Thursday.
The total number of flight landings and takeoffs increased one pct from a year earlier to 22,311 at the main international gateway to Tokyo, according to Narita International Airport Corp.
The figure reflected the start of new international flight services, including ones connecting Narita with Vienna provided by Austrian Airlines, with Don Mueang by NokScoot Airlines and with Nadi by Fiji Airways.
The strength made up for a decrease in domestic flights and a partial service suspension by Nippon Cargo Airlines due to maintenance record falsification.
The number of passengers using the airport in Chiba Prefecture rose 5 pct to 4,003,567, backed by an increase in foreign visitors.
