Japan's Honjo Wins Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine

Tokyo, Oct. 1 (Jiji Press)--Sweden's Karolinska Institute said Monday it will award the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Tasuku Honjo, professor at Japan's Kyoto University, and U.S. immunologist James Allison for their discovery of a new cancer therapy utilizing immune system.
Honjo, 76, is the fifth Japanese winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, and the first since Yoshinori Ohsumi, honorary professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology, won the prize in 2016.
The award ceremony will be held in Stockholm on Dec. 10.
