KYB Finds Data Falsification in Seismic Isolators

Tokyo, Oct. 16 (Jiji Press)--Japanese industrial parts maker KYB Corp. <7242> said Tuesday it has found inspection data falsification in some of its oil dampers used for seismic isolation and vibration control.

The affected oil dampers are used in 986 structures across Japan, including condominiums and hospitals, and the company plans to replace the devices.

KYB said it is possible that the data falsification had been conducted over the course of 15 years or more.

The infrastructure ministry ordered the firm to swiftly replace the devices and confirm the safety of the products by the end of this year.

The ministry also instructed the company to report the cause of the malpractice and take measures to prevent a recurrence, while asking other firms to check whether similar malpractice occurred.
