Vietnamese Version of Empress Michiko's Speech Published

Hanoi, Oct. 20 (Jiji Press)--A ceremony was held on Saturday at a hotel in Hanoi to celebrate the publication of the Vietnamese translation of a speech by Japanese Empress Michiko on her childhood reading experiences.

In the project, Le Thi Thu Hien, 40, head of an advertising and editing company, and others worked together with the Japanese government and other related parties.

They announced the publication of the Vietnamese translation of "Hashi wo Kakeru" (Building Bridges) on Saturday, the Empress's birthday.

For the past four years, Hien and others have been reading picture books to children in Vietnam.

Hien started working on translating and publishing the book after receiving words of encouragement from the Empress, who showed interest in Hien's activities during her visit to the Southeast Asian country with Emperor Akihito in March last year.
