Tokyo, Oct. 27 (Jiji Press)--The first Japan-bound shipments of this year's Beaujolais Nouveau wine arrived at Tokyo International Airport at Haneda on Saturday morning.

A total of 3,024 bottles of the wine, produced in the Bourgogne region in eastern France, will be delivered to retailers and eateries across Japan for sales from Nov. 15.

This year's Beaujolais Nouveau has flavors like strawberries and blueberries, and refreshing and smooth tastes, according to Toru Ayaki, head of Suntory Wine International Ltd.'s division handling imported products.

"Ideal grapes were grown thanks to an appropriate amount of rains in early spring and sunny days in and after summer," he said.

While the lifting of the embargo on sales of the French wine is talked much about in Japan at this time of the year, its popularity has been subsiding somewhat in recent years.
