Another Inspection Fraud Found at Hitachi Chemical
Tokyo, Oct. 27 (Jiji Press)--Hitachi Chemical Co. <4217> was found to have failed to conduct inspections on its electronic parts materials as agreed with clients, informed sources said Saturday.
The unit of Hitachi Ltd. <6501> started notifying client semiconductor makers of the failure, according to the sources.
An in-house special investigation committee is looking into the problem and plans to announce the findings shortly.
The latest scandal came to light after Hitachi Chemical announced only in late June this year that it had falsified inspection data on industrial-use lead storage battery products and failed to conduct inspections on the products as promised to clients.
This time, irregularities were found for inspections of sealing materials for protecting integrated circuit chips. Used on electronic circuit cards of smartphones, personal computers and home appliances, the materials protect semiconductors from light, heat, moisture and dust.
