13 Arrested on Raucous Halloween Night in Shibuya
Tokyo, Nov. 1 (Jiji Press)--Thirteen people were arrested for sex crimes, theft and other wrongdoing in Tokyo's Shibuya district, where raucous street partying took place on Halloween night from late Wednesday to early Thursday.
Meanwhile, a fire occurred in a building in the busy Center-gai area in Shibuya on Wednesday evening. No injury was reported, while 19 fire trucks were sent to the scene.
Around the iconic scramble crossing near Shibuya Station, many young people in Halloween costumes, as well as tourists, flocked to enjoy the festivities, while police officers nicknamed "DJ cops" for their witty instructions called on the crowds in Japanese and English to walk slowly.
Of the 13 people, a drunken man in his 30s was arrested in the act of indecent assault. He allegedly placed his hand inside the underwear of a costume-clad woman from behind and touched her lower body in the small hours of Thursday, according to police.
Four men in their 20s and 30s allegedly touched the bodies of four women in their 20s and 40s without consent.
