Tokyo, Nov. 1 (Jiji Press)--The Japan Association of Corporate Executives, or Keizai Doyukai, is planning to appoint Kengo Sakurada, vice chairman of the business group, as its next chairman, informed sources said Thursday.
Sakurada, president of major insurance group Sompo Holdings Inc. <8630>, will succeed current chief Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, chairman of Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corp. <4188>, in April 2019 after Kobayashi completes his two terms totaling four years.
The major business lobby is expected to finalize the appointment by the end of this month, the sources said.
Sakurada, 62, is leading the association's discussions on human resource development and other matters while getting involved in national policy talks as a member of the Council on Investments for the Future, headed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
After joining Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance Co., now Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Insurance Inc., in 1978, he became president of NKSJ Holdings Inc., now Sompo Holdings, in April 2012.
