Iris Ohyama to Sell Own-Brand TVs

Tokyo, Nov. 4 (Jiji Press)--Japanese household product maker Iris Ohyama Inc. plans to start selling television sets to boost its consumer electronics business, informed sources said Sunday.

The company, based in Sendai in the northeastern prefecture of Miyagi, plans to roll out Luca-brand TVs on Nov. 22, the sources said.

A 55-inch 4K superhigh-definition TV is expected to sell for around 100,000 yen, about 30 to 40 pct cheaper than comparable models offered by major electronics makers.

Iris Ohyama plans to design the TVs and outsource their production to a Chinese maker.

The release of own-brand TVs is part of the company's effort to double its annual sales to one trillion yen by 2022.
