Economy

Tokyo, Nov. 7 (Jiji Press)--Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. <9432> said Tuesday its revenue and operating profit hit record highs in the fiscal first half ended in September, driven higher by strong performance at its mobile phone arm.

Steady subscriber growth at the mobile arm, NTT Docomo Inc. <9437>, offset the weakness of fixed-line phone operations, NTT said.

NTT said its consolidated net profit rose 3.1 pct from a year before to 1,070,752 million yen as revenue grew 1.8 pct to 5,793,199 million yen. Net profit fell 0.8 pct to 559,726 million yen.

For the full year ending next March, the company boosted its revenue forecast to 11.9 trillion yen from 11.83 trillion yen, citing NTT Docomo's strength.

NTT kept its operating and net profit projections unchanged at 1,690 billion and 880 billion yen, respectively.
