Ikea Japan to Open Outlet in Harajuku in 2020

Tokyo, Nov. 15 (Jiji Press)--Ikea Japan K.K. said Thursday it will open an outlet in front of Tokyo's Harajuku Station of East Japan Railway Co.<9020>, or JR East, in spring 2020.
It will be the first urban outlet of Ikea in Japan, according to the unit of Swedish furniture retailer Ikea.
The 2,500-square-meter store will occupy the first and second floors of a building being built by NTT Urban Development Corp. <8933> in the Harajuku shopping district in Shibuya Ward.
Ikea Japan hopes to win new customers visiting Harajuku, known as a center of Japanese youth culture and fashion.
Currently, Ikea has nine outlets in Japan, including in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo, and Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan. All nine are suburban stores with large parking spaces.
