JAL Cancels Flight due to Overbooking, Stranding 400 People

Tokyo, Nov. 22 (Jiji Press)--Japan Airlines <9201> canceled a flight from Tokyo International Airport at Haneda to the southwestern Japan city of Fukuoka on Wednesday night due to overbooking, the airline has said.

Some of about 400 people affected by the flight cancellation stayed overnight at Haneda.

This is the first time for the major Japanese airline to have canceled a flight due to overbooking.

The Japanese transport ministry instructed JAL on Thursday to report details about the incident.

The flight in question was to arrive at Fukuoka Airport at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday (12:45 p.m. GMT).
