Paris, Nov. 23 (Jiji Press)--Japan won its bid to host the 2025 World Expo in the western city of Osaka, at a general assembly meeting of the Bureau International des Expositions, or BIE, in Paris on Friday.
This will be the second time for Osaka Prefecture to host the World Expo, following the 1970 show.
Osaka won the bid after two rounds of voting by BIE member countries, beating the two rivals of Ekaterinburg in Russia and Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
"The election of Japan as the host country of World Expo 2025 marks the start of an exciting journey for Osaka," BIE Secretary-General Vicente Loscertales said.
In its proposal, Osaka said it will utilize virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies to hold a World Expo whose main theme is health and longevity.
