Tokyo, Nov. 27 (Jiji Press)--Nissan Motor Co. <7201> is planning to hold a board meeting on Dec. 17 to select its new chairman to succeed disgraced Carlos Ghosn, informed sources said Tuesday.

The new chairman is expected to serve in the post tentatively in the wake of Ghosn's sudden arrest and dismissal last week for alleged financial misconduct, the sources said.

Promising candidates for the new chairman include incumbent Nissan President Hiroto Saikawa.

By filling the vacant post, Nissan apparently aims to accelerate efforts to rebuild its management.

A committee composed of outside board members plans to pick the new chairman from among existing Nissan board directors, the sources said.
