Tokyo, Nov. 27 (Jiji Press)--Kao Corp. <4452> said Tuesday it has developed a new technology to make a skin-like substance by spraying ultrathin fibers one-hundredth the width of a strand of hair onto users' skin.
The new technology, called Fine Fiber, helps users to preserve skin moisture and protect makeup, the Japanese cosmetics maker said. The substance can be removed easily using cleansing oil, it said.
Kao plans to launch cosmetics and other products featuring the new technology next year. The company is expected to use the technology for high-end cosmetics products first.
"In the future, we want to use it in the medical field as well," Kao President and Chief Executive Officer Michitaka Sawada said of the new technology.
In January, domestic rival Shiseido Co. <4911> acquired a similar technology from a U.S. startup.
