Sekisui House, Marriott to Open Hotels Next to "Michi no Eki"

Tokyo, Nov. 28 (Jiji Press)--Sekisui House Ltd. <1928> and major U.S. hotel chain Marriott International Inc. said Wednesday they will open hotels adjacent to "michi no eki" roadside rest and shopping facilities in cooperation with regional municipalities.
From autumn 2020, Sekisui House and Marriott will open hotels without meal services at 15 locations in the western prefectures of Kyoto and Wakayama, the eastern prefecture of Tochigi and the central prefectures of Mie and Gifu.
The hotels will offer a total of 1,000 rooms. The two companies plan a nationwide business expansion.
"We want to support regional tourism industries" by helping increase local consumption by tourists, Sekisui House President Yoshihiro Nakai told a press conference in Tokyo.
The hotels will accommodate not only foreign visitors but Japanese tourists.
