Tokyo, Dec. 6 (Jiji Press)--The Gurunavi Research Institute, an affiliate of Japanese online restaurant search and booking service provider Gurunavi Inc. <2440>, said Thursday that it has selected dishes using "saba," or mackerel, as its cuisine of the year for 2018.
Mackerel, which is rich in nutrients, such as docosahexaenoic acid, is drawing attention on the back of growing health consciousness.
Canned mackerel products are especially popular as they are easy to use for cooking.
Canned products using high-end mackerel brands, such as "Kinka saba," from the northeastern Japan prefecture of Miyagi, and those with colorfully designed packaging have proved a hit with consumers, mainly women.
The Gurunavi Research Institute began announcing its cuisine of the year in 2014.
