Japanese Man Nearly Becomes Drug Courier

Bangkok, Dec. 10 (Jiji Press)--Thai police said Monday that they have arrested a 43-year-old Iranian man in Bangkok for allegedly trying to use a Japanese man as a drug courier.

The Japanese man, a company employee in his 30s, visited the Thai capital after applying in Japan to an online ad for a travel reporter with a promise of a free trip with pay for a travel report.

An international smuggling group may be involved in the case.

At Tokyo Station, the Japanese man received from a person who appears to have been a member of the group 400,000 yen for a trip to Bangkok, including a round-trip flight ticket, and arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday.

The following day, the Iranian man visited a hotel in which the Japanese man stayed and asked him to carry a suitcase to Frankfurt, western Germany, providing him with 2,000 dollars.
