1,686 Firms in Japan to Mark 100th Year in 2019

Tokyo, Dec. 13 (Jiji Press)--A total of 1,686 firms in Japan will celebrate their 100th year in business next year, according to a survey by Teikoku Databank Ltd., a credit research company.

They include 28 publicly traded firms such as shipping firm Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. <9107>, precision machinery maker Olympus Corp. <7733>, ceramic product maker NGK Insulators Ltd. <5333> and Mayonnaise maker Kewpie Corp. <2809>.

Among privately held companies that will turn 100 years old next year are hardware store operator DCM Homac Co.

Manufacturers account for 29.4 pct of the total, wholesalers 19.7 pct and retailers 17.4 pct.

Steel trading company Okaya & Co. will commemorate its 350th year in 2019.
