Nissan Provides Renault with Information on Ghosn
Tokyo, Dec. 13 (Jiji Press)--Nissan Motor Co. <7201> has shared information with its French alliance partner, Renault SA, on alleged misdeeds by Carlos Ghosn, former chairman of the Japanese automaker, informed sources said Thursday.
The move by Nissan was designed to encourage Renault to remove Ghosn as chairman and chief executive officer after the Japanese company last month fired him as chairman, the sources said.
Nissan removed Ghosn as chairman after he was arrested by Japanese prosecutors on suspicion of underreporting his compensation in the company's financial filings.
Following Ghosn's arrest, Renault asked Nissan for information on his alleged misconduct.
As the request involves details of a case currently under investigation, Nissan carefully considered its course of action. The company eventually decided that it needed to provide some sort of explanation to protect its relationship of trust with Renault.
