Nissan Note Sells Well in Japan in 2018

Tokyo, Jan. 10 (Jiji Press)--Nissan Motor Co.'s <7201> Note subcompact topped the list of best-selling new vehicles in Japan last year, excluding minivehicles with engine displacements of up to 660 cc, industry data showed Thursday.

The Note marked the first Nissan model to win the top spot in the annual rankings, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association.

The Nissan vehicle, which includes a hybrid variant, beat Toyota Motor Corp.'s <7203> Prius hybrid, which was the top-selling car in 2017.

Sales of the Note fell 1.9 pct in 2018 from the previous year to 136,324 units.

In overall sales rankings, including minivehicles, Honda Motor Co.'s <7267> N-Box minivehicle took the top spot for the second straight year, with sales of 241,870 units, followed by Suzuki Motor Corp.'s <7269> Spacia minivehicle and Nissan's Dayz minivehicle.
