Wacoal Unit Halts Beauty Supplement Sales on Steamy Claims

Kyoto, Jan. 10 (Jiji Press)--A unit of Wacoal Holdings Corp. <3591>, a major underwear maker based in the western Japan city of Kyoto, halted sales of a beauty supplement on Wednesday for inappropriate product descriptions and advertising, it was learned Thursday.

The Tokyo-based subsidiary, Peach John Co., had promoted the product, called Love Potion, as "a unisex love supplement" that "arouses passionate emotions."

On its official Twitter page, Peach John, an underwear seller, had advised users to mix the powdery supplement with drinks and meals "stealthily." This attracted massive criticism on the Internet, with some saying that the description could "prompt crimes."

The product, containing maca, or Peruvian ginseng, had been on sale, mainly on the Internet, since November last year.

"We're very sorry for causing displeasure to our customers," the company said on its website.
