Japanese Actress Etsuko Ichihara Dies at 82

Tokyo, Jan. 13 (Jiji Press)--Japanese actress Etsuko Ichihara, popular for her performances in many television drams, movies and plays, died of heart failure on Saturday. She was 82.
A native of Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, Ichihara, real name Etsuko Shiomi, joined Tokyo-based Haiyuza Theater Company in 1957, where she rose to prominence as a stage actress.
After leaving Haiyuza, she set up a production company with her husband and director, Satoshi Shiomi.
Ichihara joined actor Fujio Tokita in serving as narrators and voice actors for "Manga Nihon Mukashi Banashi," a popular animated TV folktale series that began in 1975.
She was also known for her leading role in the popular TV drama series "Kaseifu wa Mita" (The Housekeeper Saw).
