Tokyo, Jan. 17 (Jiji Press)--Used vehicle sales in Japan in 2018 dropped 0.7 pct from the previous year to 3,837,482 units, down for the first time in three years, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Thursday.

The moves in used car sales tend to follow those of the new vehicle market. The number of used small vehicles in circulation slumped due to fading positive effects from new small vehicle launches.

Sales of used passenger cars fell one pct to 3,357,843 units. Of them, sales of small cars dropped 4.1 pct to 1,523,537 units, while those of larger models rose 1.7 pct to 1,834,306 units.

Sales of trucks increased 1.3 pct to 390,132 units and those of buses went up 1.5 pct to 13,256 units.

Minivehicles, equipped with 660 cc or smaller engines, are not covered by the data.
