Desclee to Become Seiyu CEO

Tokyo, Jan. 17 (Jiji Press)--Seiyu G.K., a unit of U.S. retail giant Walmart Inc., said Thursday that Lionel Desclee, 39, will become new chief executive officer of the Japanese supermarket chain, effective on March 15.
Walmart has been leaving Seiyu's CEO post vacant since Takeshi Kamigochi resigned in February last year, while seeking to sell Seiyu and withdraw from Japan. Mitch Slape has been serving as interim Seiyu CEO.
The U.S. firm, struggling to find a buyer for Seiyu, is believed to have judged that it cannot keep the Japanese company's CEO post vacant any longer.
Desclee worked at a food retailer and a pet shop chain in Belgium before entering Walmart on Tuesday. He will double as CEO of Walmart Japan Holdings.
