Abe Cabinet Support Rises to 43 Pct: Jiji Poll

Tokyo, Jan. 18 (Jiji Press)--Public support for the cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in January rose 4.6 percentage points from the previous month to 43.5 pct, a Jiji Press opinion poll showed Friday.

The disapproval rating dropped 3.6 points to 35.1 pct. The poll was conducted for four days through Monday.

The results followed a drop in public approval last month, when the ruling camp rammed through parliament an immigration control law revision to accept more foreign workers.

Meanwhile, the labor ministry's unfolding scandal over irregularities in its monthly labor survey may affect the Abe cabinet and public support.

Asked about Abe's goal of implementing a revised constitution in 2020, 28.8 pct expressed support and 37.7 pct objected, while 33.5 pct said they are not sure.
