Subaru Halts Vehicle Production in Japan
Tokyo, Jan. 23 (Jiji Press)--Subaru Corp. <7270> has suspended automobile production at its two plants in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo, due to a problem with procured auto parts, it was learned Wednesday.
Subaru is investigating the cause of the problem but has yet to have prospects for when to resume plant operations, according to the major Japanese automaker.
The two plants are Subaru's only vehicle assembly factories in Japan.
Production at both plants has been halted since Jan. 16. Subaru has already decided to stop Wednesday's operations.
Hit by its inspection fraud scandal, which came to light in 2017, Subaru is moving forward with efforts to prevent a recurrence of similar problems in order to normalize operations at the plants.
