Japan to Conduct Hearings with Labor Ministry Staff Again
Newsfrom JapanPolitics Lifestyle
Tokyo, Jan. 25 (Jiji Press)--Japanese labor minister Takumi Nemoto said Friday that another round of hearings with ministry staff on survey irregularities will be held, after it was revealed that an earlier round was not conducted properly.
Nemoto's comments came the day after lawmakers learned at parliamentary deliberations that the earlier hearings with some ministry staff were conducted not by third-party experts but by ministry officials themselves.
The revelation drew harsh criticism from opposition parties.
The hearings were part of an investigation into labor survey irregularities by a special committee comprising third-party experts.
The investigative committee on Tuesday released a report finding that ministry officials were aware that the survey was not conducted in the right way, while stopping short of concluding the ministry tried to cover up the blunder.
