Koikeya to Mark End of Heisei with Spepcial Potato Chips

Tokyo, Jan. 28 (Jiji Press)--Koike-Ya Inc. <2226> will launch a special potato chips product Tuesday, with the best-before date of April 30, the final day of the current Heisei period, officials have said.

Words representing the Heisei era from 1989, including "the bubble economy," are printed on the package of the rich seaweed and salt flavor chips. The product will go on limited sale at major convenience store chain Lawson Inc. <2651> nationwide.

"We hope that people will enjoy a celebratory atmosphere ahead of the change of era," said a Koike-Ya official.

The best-before date is printed in large letters on the front of the package, alongside terms from the era, such as "yutori" relaxed education, maid cafe and postal-service privatization.

The reverse side shows 11 major Koikeya potato chips package designs during Heisei. The price is set at 165 yen.
