Subaru Resumes Auto Production at Eastern Japan Plants
Tokyo, Jan. 28 (Jiji Press)--Subaru Corp. <7270> said Monday that it has resumed automobile production and shipments at two plants in Gunma Prefecture, eastern Japan.
The automaker had halted operations at the plants, Subaru's only vehicle assembly factories in the country, since Jan. 16 due to a possible defect in an electric power-steering component.
The company restarted the operations after resolving the problem by securing substitute components.
The suspension is believed to have affected the production of around 20,000 vehicles.
Subaru was hit by a string of quality-related scandals from autumn 2017. It has taken preventive measures across the company.
