State Spending on 2020 Tokyo Games to Total 219.7 B. Yen

Tokyo, Jan. 29 (Jiji Press)--Central government spending related to the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics will total 219.7 billion yen over the seven years from fiscal 2013, Yoshitaka Sakurada, minister for the 2020 Games, said Tuesday.

Overall costs for the quadrennial events are estimated at 1.35 trillion yen, excluding reserve funds.

The organizing committee for the games and the Tokyo metropolitan government are set to shoulder 600 billion yen each, while the state is to cover the remaining 150 billion yen.

But the total games-related spending under state budgets for the seven years includes 138 billion yen in expenditures outside the 150-billion-yen quota.

Of the 219.7 billion yen, outlays directly related to the Tokyo Games include 51.7 billion yen to build the new National Stadium, the main venue of the quadrennial events, and 30 billion yen to prepare for the Paralympics.
