Tokyo, Jan. 30 (Jiji Press)--Japanese retail giant Aeon Co. <8267> has said it will introduce a video interpretation service for foreign customers at its outlets.
The service, offered by Tokyo-based network service provider Terilogy Serviceware Corp., will allow store staff members to connect to interpreters of chosen languages via smartphones or tablets carried with them to have their conversations with customers translated, Aeon said Tuesday.
The service will start on a full-scale at some 550 Aeon and Aeon Style stores nationwide from Friday.
It will offer interpretation in 10 languages, including English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, Russian and Tagalog. A sign language interpretation service will also be available for customers with hearing difficulties.
