Nachi-Fujikoshi Faces 3rd S. Korean Appeal Ruling for Compensation
Seoul, Jan. 30 (Jiji Press)--Seoul High Court upheld on Wednesday a lower court ruling against Nachi-Fujikoshi Corp. <6474>, ordering the major Japanese machine tool maker to compensate five South Korean women who were requisitioned to work for the firm during World War II.
Nachi-Fujikoshi was ordered to pay 100 million won per person, for a total of 500 million won.
This was the third appeal ruling against the Japanese firm in wartime labor lawsuits filed in South Korea.
"It is regrettable that our claim was not accepted," a Nachi-Fujikoshi official said, voicing plans to appeal the three rulings, all issued this month.
Of the plaintiffs in the latest case, an 89-year-old woman told reporters that she wants Nachi-Fujikoshi to pay compensation as soon as possible.
