Tokyo, Feb. 3 (Jiji Press)--Nissan Motor Co. <7201> President Hiroto Saikawa said Sunday that he had future-oriented discussions with new Renault SA Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard late last week.

The two leaders exchanged views on the future development of the Japanese-French alliance, Saikawa told reporters. "We had good future-oriented discussions."

Saikawa and Senard had a direct meeting on the sidelines of a two-day regular conference among executives of the alliance partners, also including Mitsubishi Motors Corp. <7211>, in Amsterdam from Thursday.

It was the first such regular conference since the Senard-led management team was launched at Renault on Jan. 24 following the resignation of Carlos Ghosn as chairman and chief executive officer.

Nissan and Renault have been vying for leadership since Ghosn was arrested and ousted from the post of Nissan chairman in November last year.
