Lexus Remains Most Reliable Vehicle Brand in U.S.

New York, Feb. 13 (Jiji Press)--Toyota Motor Corp.'s <7203> Lexus luxury brand took the top spot in J.D. Power's annual U.S. vehicle dependability survey for the eighth straight year, the U.S. research firm said Wednesday.

The Japanese automaker's mass-market Toyota brand rose to second place from the previous year's eighth, tying with Volkswagen AG's Porsche.

The study measured the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles during the past 12 months by 32,952 owners of three-year-old model-year vehicles.

Lexus had a score of 106 problems per 100 vehicles, compared with the industry average of 136 problems in the survey that covered 31 brands.

Among other Japanese brands, Subaru Corp.'s <7270> Subaru climbed to 14th from 24th. Nissan Motor Co.'s <7201> Nissan fell to 15th from 10th, and Honda Motor Co.'s <7267> Honda dropped to 16th from 12th.
