Tokyo, Feb. 19 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese telecommunications carrier KDDI Corp. <9433> will form an alliance with Tokyo Electric Power Co. Holdings Inc. <9501>, according to informed sources.

The two companies' customers will receive discounts of several pct if they pay fees for "au" mobile phone services offered by KDDI together with bills for electricity or gas supplies, the sources said Monday.

Through the tie-up, KDDI hopes to curb communication service contract cancellations, while TEPCO aims to increase the number of households using its energy services.

KDDI will tie up with TEPCO Energy Partner Inc., an electricity retailer under the wing of TEPCO, to launch a joint service shortly, the sources said. The service will allow customers paying mobile and energy fees altogether to get reward points worth several pct of their payments.
