S. Korea to Attend Japan MSDF-Hosted Seminar

Tokyo, Feb. 19 (Jiji Press)--The Japanese Defense Ministry's Maritime Staff Office said Tuesday that South Korea's Navy will attend as usual an international seminar to be hosted by the Maritime Self-Defense Force.

This will be the first defense exchange activity between the two countries since a South Korean warship directed its fire-control radar at an MSDF patrol plane in December last year.

The annual seminar, the 22nd of its kind, will be held for eight days from Monday at venues including the MSDF's Command and Staff College in Tokyo's Meguro Ward.

Senior naval officers from 18 countries in the Asia-Pacific region will gather to hold discussions and train troops. A key topic in the planned discussions is cooperation in the free and open Indo-Pacific region.

China's Navy will take part in the seminar for the first time in six years.
