Sony to Hire 20 Pct More R&D Workers in Spring 2020
Tokyo, Feb. 21 (Jiji Press)--Sony Corp. <6758> said Thursday that it will increase the number of new graduates to be employed in the spring of 2020 for research and development by 20 pct from the year-before level.
The Japanese electronics giant plans to employ 400 new graduates in April 2020, the same level as a year earlier.
Of 320 positions for technical jobs, Sony will allocate some 40 pct for semiconductor-related operations, chiefly for artificial intelligence technology, as part of an effort to become the world's top maker of complementary metal-oxide semiconductor, or CMOS, image sensors.
Sony plans to invest a total of one trillion yen mainly in the field of semiconductors over three years until fiscal 2020.
"We'll focus on diversity (when recruiting,)" Sony Corporate Executive Officer Kazushi Anbe said at a press conference.
