Nagoya, March 4 (Jiji Press)--Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. has started the final flight test for its Mitsubishi Regional Jet, the first Japanese-developed small passenger jet, in the United States, officials said Monday.

The test, which began in the state of Washington on Sunday for a one-year run, is in the final stage of the process to acquire a type certificate from the Japanese transport ministry.

Type certificates, necessary for commercial flights, confirm that aircraft fulfill airworthiness and other safety requirements.

In the test, ministry examination staff boards the MRJ to collect and analyze data.

Mitsubishi Aircraft, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. <7011>, aims to deliver the first MRJ in mid-2020, seven years later than initially planned.
