Nissin's Chicken Ramen Hitting Record Sales, Aided by TV Drama

Tokyo, March 5 (Jiji Press)--Nissin Food Products Co.'s Chicken Ramen-brand noodle products, derived from the world's first instant noodle product, are set to mark record sales in fiscal 2018, ending on March 31, the Japanese company said.

The anticipated record sales, yet to be specified, come as a popular television drama series is shedding fresh light on the Chicken Ramen noodles, originally released in 1958.

The drama series, titled "Manpuku" and aired on Japan Broadcasting Corp., or NHK, focuses on challenges faced by Momofuku Ando, the late founder of the company, in the development of Chicken Ramen.

The drama series seems to have elicited sympathy for Ando's experiences, helping improve the brand's image, a public relations official of the company said.

The Chicken Ramen brand last renewed its record annual sales in fiscal 2003, when a new feature was added to the main instant noodle product: a hole on the dried noodle block's surface for placing a raw egg before pouring boiling water onto it.
