Nippon Suisan to Raise Canned Mackerel Prices

Economy

Tokyo, March 5 (Jiji Press)--Nippon Suisan Kaisha Ltd. <1332> said Tuesday it will raise the prices of all of its 11 canned mackerel products, by 7 pct to 10 pct, starting with shipments to wholesalers on April 1.

The move reflects soaring prices of domestic mackerel, and higher logistics and labor costs, according to the major Japanese seafood maker.

The price increases will be the company's first since August last year.

The price of its mainstay 150-gram can of boiled mackerel will likely be raised by tens of yen.

Demand for canned mackerel products is rising because they are easy to cook and health consciousness among consumers is growing.
